International
Co-leads: Ray Chang, Laura Phipps
Brief Description
The annual FEMA HiEd Symposium continues to attract participants who live and work outside of the United States and share an interest in the advancement of higher education in emergency management and related fields of study. This SIG evolved out of an interest in having a forum for participants at the annual Symposium to connect with others who have an interest in exploring research, practice, and teaching issues in an international context. Dr. Ray Chang is seeking a new co-lead for this SIG.
Purpose
- To proactively promote the annual FEMA HiEd Symposium to an international audience.
- To increase understanding of the situated nature and diversity of approaches to emergency management practice through inclusion of presentations by international participants.
- To provide networking opportunities at the annual FEMA HiEd Symposium for those interested in international dimensions of emergency management teaching, research, and practice.
- Facilitate the welcoming atmosphere in the annual HiEd Symposium for those international participants (e.g., organizing and hosting the international breakfast, the international mixer, and informal events/conversation with international participants).
