COVID-19 Information for National Emergency Training Center Students

Note: effective July 28, 2021, all Federal employees, onsite contractors, and visitors, regardless of vaccination status or level of COVID transmission in your local area, are required to wear a mask inside all DHS workspaces and Federal buildings.

Extended Outage

We will be performing scheduled maintenance on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 8:00 AM EST. This is a planned three (3) day EXTENDED OUTAGE, ending Friday, October 15, 2021 at 10:00 PM EST. All EMI web services will be unavailable for this time period. Please contact us if you experience any issues outside of this maintenance window.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency continues to monitor the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as it relates to COVID-19. To mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the CDC is encouraging organizations to promote social distancing, hold meetings via videoconferencing, reduce non-essential travel, and adjust or postpone events and gatherings. We also continue to evaluate the local and national situation and will provide regular updates.

Students will be notified in advance concerning the status of their on-campus course offering.

We thank you for your understanding, and we invite you to visit our extensive catalog of Independent Study Courses as well as classroom courses available by virtual delivery.

508 and Technical Standards

All electronic and Information technology (E&IT) deliverables developed for EMI will meet the standard outlined in Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. 794d) of 1973 (as amended).  EMI maintains a locally authored policy guide that covers all aspects of Section 508 compliance known as Appendix A. This policy guide is the same document used by EMI Testers to determine if a deliverable meets 508 compliancy standards. The guide is distributed only to those contractors who have been awarded a contract with EMI and is part of the EMI statement of work (SOW). If you need a copy of this document, please contact your respective EMI Course Manager.

508 Requirements and the LCMS

During course development in the LCMS, 508 compliance must always be kept in mind. Although courses will be created within the LCMS, they eventually will be exported into various formats including MS Word, PowerPoint, and/or HTML. Since the final products will be in these formats, developers must ensure that they create 508 compliant content during development.

After development has completed, EMI will export the course out to the final format and run the 508 checks on the final documents.

Throughout development, ensure that you follow the 508 guidelines and requirements found here.

Section 508 Compliance Letter

All deliverables submitted to EMI must be accompanied by a section 508 compliance letter.
