Dams Sector: Security Awareness is the second course in the Dams Sector Web-based Training Series. The purpose of this series of courses is to provide owners, operators, and others with responsibilities associated with the Dams Sector with information to understand security risk, view examples of security and protective measures to address risk, and respond effectively to security incidents.
This course explains how security awareness is an important component of an overall risk management program. It provides owners, operators, and the response community with information about the factors contributing to security in the Dams Sector, how the components of security risk relate to sector assets, and the principles of suspicious activity reporting.
IMPORTANT NOTE:This course is designated as FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY (FOUO) because it contains sensitive but unclassified information. The HSIN-CI Dams Portal serves as the primary mechanism with which dam and levee stakeholders exchange information, both at the For Official Use Only and non-sensitive levels, during steady-state operations. The portal, managed by the Dams Sector Management Team within the Stakeholder Engagement Division at CISA, promotes effective information collection and dissemination among sector partners in federal, state, and local agencies, as well as the private sector. The portal provides trusted and vetted public and private representatives, including owners and operators, access to a number of resources, including training courses.

To take this course, you:
- Must complete the course within the Homeland Security Information Network-Critical Infrastructure (HSIN-CI) Dams Portal. Those who do not currently have access to the HSIN-CI Dams Portal must complete the HSIN-CI Dams Portal Access Request Form and submit directly to the Dams Sector Management Team via damssector@mail.cisa.dhs.gov to request access to the course.

Course Access Instructions
- Go to https://hsin.dhs.gov/. From the login screen, enter your HSIN username and password.
- From the HSIN Homepage, hover over the 3x3 grid in the upper-left corner of the screen. A dropdown menu will appear. Click on the ‘Memberships’ link.
- From the options of membership communities, click on 'Dams'.
- From the Dams Portal homepage, click on 'Training'.
- From the Dams Training homepage, click on the course you want to take. After taking the course, the exam link is below the course description.
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Describe the factors contributing to security in the Dams Sector
- Describe how the components of risk—threats, vulnerabilities, and consequents—relate to the Dams Sector
- Describe the importance of reporting suspicious activity
