Course Overview

This course provides information on Integrated Public Alert and Warning Systems (IPAWS) for Alerting Administrators. The goal of this course is to provide guidance to those becoming authorized Alerting Administrators for IPAWS by:

  • Developing effective policies, plans, and procedures
  • Defining the approval process
  • Defining the importance of training, practice, and exercising with IPAWS
  • Illustrating best practices and effective use of IPAWS to reach members of the public
The learner must achieve a minimum passing score of 75% on final knowledge assessments or demonstrate mastery on performance assessments or research assignments to earn the IACET CEU.

Course Objectives:

  • Recognize the roles within IPAWS alerting authorities.
  • Identify the requirements for establishing, maintaining and renewing alerting authority status.
  • Recall considerations for selecting and managing alert origination software.
  • Recognize effective internal policies, plans and procedures for alerting authority governance.
  • Identify best practices that support their alerting authority’s alert and warning success.
  • Recall resources available to support the training, practice and exercising of all members of their alerting authority.
