Course Overview

The course is an online, self-guided training. The goal of the course is to provide plan reviewers with the information necessary to review a local hazard mitigation plan using the Local Mitigation Planning Policy Guide.? The Local Mitigation Planning Policy Guide is FEMA’s official policy on, and interpretation of, local hazard mitigation planning requirements set in 44 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 201.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of locals, states and FEMA in the hazard mitigation planning process.
  • Understand the components of the Plan Review Tool.
  • Explain the required elements for a hazard mitigation plan.
  • Describe how to use the Local Mitigation Planning Policy Guide and its Plan Review Tool to communicate the results of the review to a state or local community.
  • Write effective plan assessment comments, including resources for communities to use in implementation.
