Emergency Management Institute (EMI) Acting Superintendent - Ed Smith

--Ed Smith

The Emergency Management Institute (EMI), located on the campus of the National Emergency Training Center (NETC) in Emmitsburg, Maryland, continues to support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) goals by training emergency management officials at all levels of government to prepare for a variety of emergencies and disasters.

EMI delivers training classes to federal, state, local, tribal, volunteer, public and private sector officials with the goal of strengthening emergency management core competencies for professional, career-long training. The training is provided in a variety of ways including onsite training on our campus in Emmitsburg, MD, offsite delivery of courses in partnership with emergency management training systems, colleges, universities, and technology-based mediums for individual training of emergency management personnel across the nation.

EMI continues to provide a more efficient way to conduct classroom training. From April 1 to June 30, 2014, EMI saved printing costs for 1,180 student manuals by teaching 40 courses in the classroom with electronic files. This effort saved printing costs of approximately $30,000.
