Acting Superintendent's Corner
The Emergency Management Institute (EMI) hosted the 2014 National Preparedness Directorate’s National Training and Exercise (NT&E) Symposium April 29-May 1, 2014, in Emmitsburg, Maryland. More than 170 state (from 49 states) and territorial training and exercise officers; tribal liaisons; FEMA personnel; and presenters participated.
EMI’s presentation on the Emergency Management Professional Program led to productive discussions and plans for partnership implementation between EMI and the states, territories, and tribal liaisons. Many stakeholders agree that the professionalization of the emergency management career field requires a national recognized training program.
The panel on “Maintaining National Incident Management System/Incident Command System Proficiency in Your Programs” identified methodologies and best practices for state training officers to implement their training programs.
The open dialog between the peer state-to-state participants, coupled with skilled facilitators, led to discussions concerning skills, training and career experience of state instructors.
The NT&E Symposium was successful as a result of the collaborative effort of the planning efforts of the 2014 Roundtable members.
