Course Information: This is a 4.5 day
performance-based course where the participants learn to respond
to, and manage, radiological incidents. The participants, organized
as response teams, operate and make decisions in a realistic exercise
environment. The course goal is to provide participants with the
operational requirements and techniques for proper response and
management of incidents involving various radiological hazards through
a practical, performance oriented, team response approach.
The course consists of
classroom lectures, to teach the concepts of team building and planning,
and a series of performance-based field exercises that includes
on-scene incident assessment, radiological monitoring, radiation
exposure and contamination control, and reporting procedures.
Prerequisites:
G320, Fundamentals Course for Radiological Response. Competency
through equivalent education and experience may be substituted for
the G320 course. Include with your application a summary of the
education and experience to be substituted for the prerequisite
G320 course for evaluation, or contact José Cortés,
course manager, prior to submitting your application to EMI. The
two Independent Study courses, Radiological Emergency Management
(IS3) and, Radiological Emergency Response (IS301) must be completed
prior to enrollment in RERO.
Participant
Selection Criteria: This course is intended for Federal,
State, local, or tribal radiological/hazardous materials personnel
who are responsible for responding and possibly managing a radiation
incident, as members of a response team. Personnel assigned to such
teams include fire service, law enforcement, health physicists,
industrial hygienists, radiological officers, and other emergency
service personnel with similar responsibilities. Federal evaluators
of nuclear power plant off-site REP exercises, and State, local,
tribal, and utility personnel who are involved in the development
of off-site REP plans and exercises may also apply.
Location:
The course is held at the Noble Training Center, 490 Care Drive,
Ft. McClellan, Alabama. To apply complete a FEMA Form 75-5 (General
Admissions Application) and submit it through the State emergency
management training office to the National Emergency Training Center
Admissions Office. No State quotas apply. FEMA Regional employees
should submit the application to their regional training manager.
